John Fielden Junior Scholarship Award

Stop Press: 4 Places Available in 2010

For many people John Fielden was Enterprise. Fighting the growing restrictions of competition flying Phillip Wills asked John to hold the 'Enterprise' Baton when the competiton first started in 1974. From that date he successfully directed virtually every Enterprise until his death in 2002. It was always his desire to encourage younger pilotsto follow his philosophy and indeed several Junior Squad pilots, led by Andy Perkins, joined us at North Hill in 2002, see photo below. John's legacy has made available the chance for 2 (4 in 2010, see below) Junior Entrants to fly at Enterprise at minimal cost.

To qualify you must be under 26 at the beginning of the competition.

Closing Date: Application for the scholarship must be submitted by 31st March 2010. Applicats will be informed of the decision within a week of that date.

To apply please email Jon Hart jhart.jon@gmail.com explaining why you are applying with your personal and fluing details and you will be considered for the scholarship. Alternatively, if you know of a budding pilot in this category, please get them to make contact.

N.B. in 2010 we are flying at Lasham, where there is good winch launching available, as a result we are able to stretch the award from 2 to 4 pilots, so there is a maximum subsidy of £175 per pilot split as follows:

£35 - 50% of entry fee, normal Junior price is £65

£90 – Launches. If all by winch, surplus goes to travel costs

£50 – Travel/transport

£175 - Total

All pilots under 26 are entitled to half price entry to the competition even if they do not win a scholarship, i.e. £65

The Juniors found the tasks challenging but their leader, Andy Perkins, had the last laugh by playing tennis with a nubile young lady shortly after landing out!
